Pomorie Salt Museum is dedicated to the production of salt from sea water through evaporation in the sun. It is the only one of its kind in Bulgaria and Eastern Europe. The Museum is located in Pomorie salt lake between Burgas and Sunny Beach. Sea salt production in Pomorie dates back to the 5th c. BC and even further, with traditions and technologies that have been handed over from generation to generation. The Museum comprises of an exhibition hall and about 5 acres of active salt ponds where visitors can see the ancient technology, tools and equipment some of which still used in salt production. There is a rich photo collection from the beginning of the last century, old topographic maps, authentic tools and reproductions, an audio-visual lecture, etc. The Museum shop sells various memorabilia, brochures, souvenirs and other items connected in one way or another with the sea salt production. Pomorie Salt Museum is open from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. in winter and till 6 p.m. in summer and offers discounts for children, students, disabled and pensioners.
