Bikearea
Bulgaria
Bikearea Association is a non-governmental organisation which is not only aimed at promoting mountain biking in Bulgaria but also at developing and providing a wide range of tourist-related products and services, environmental protection and implementing various projects oriented towards young people. It was established in 2004 by a group of idealistic souls who wanted to create something slightly different from all the mainstream adventure sports agencies and companies which mushroomed around that time. Their main goal is to get as close to nature as possible and that's precisely why it is highly unlikely to find them sitting behind the messy desks of some stuffy downtown office. No, no, Bikearea's seat is located up in the mountain, on the lush meadows of Beglika, where its four guides can ride their bikes freely and demonstrate the true magnificence of the Bulgarian countryside to their friends and clients.
The guys from Bikearea are active throughout the whole year. The spring, summer and autumn are devoted to cycling tours and trekking adventures, as well as boat rides and various fun forest activities such as orienteering and caving. In wintertime the focus is on snowshoeing and ski walking in Bulgaria's high mountain regions. One of the most impressive features of the association is its flexibility. Apart from all the traditionally available wild cycling trips and routes, Bikearea offers a whole bunch of seasonal tours and organises events that are tailored to meet the different clients' special requirements and personal desires. Their diversity is great and naturally attracts all sorts of customers, from large companies to adventure-seeking individuals and from total beginners to experienced mountain bikers. On the association's site one can find detailed information about the length and difficulty of each of the biking trails and pick the one that they like best. Oh, and if you come from afar and haven't brought your bicycle to Bulgaria with you, don't worry - you can always rent a first-class mountain bike from Bikearea, and at affordable prices, too. That way you can also meet Bikearea's guides, who are not only very friendly and helpful, but speak fluent English as well.
Last but certainly not the least, this organisation actively participates in a huge number of green projects which are predominantly related to the improvement of the conditions for mountain biking in the Rhodopes, the sustainable development of the region of Beglika (in the Rhodope Mountains again) and a host of other smaller, but equally important environmentally friendly initiatives.
