Kamenni Gabi (Stone Mushrooms, Mantarkaia) are remarkable rock formation located near the village of Beli Plast (also close to Zornitca village), an hour and half drive from Plovdiv, between Kardzhali and Haskovo. The rocks are 2.5-3 m tall and resemble wild mushrooms not only in shape but in colour too - the stemps are white and pink, the cups are blue, black and green with moss and grass growing on some of them. The locals tell a few legends about the mushrooms, some of them quite ferocious and blood-thirsty, referring to the old times of barbarism and oppression.
Once you reach the village of Beli Plast, you can stop at the covered quarry where there is a spring with healing water (it is believed that this water prevents cancer and many other illnesses and secures long life). The stone mushrooms are easy to see since they lie along the road just after the quarry.
