Buzludzha Monument
Bulgaria
Buzludzha monument has been rated as one of the world's most beautiful abandoned buildings. The flying saucer-shaped grand monument of the Bulgarian Communist Party bears boldly the Panta Rhei spirit and the stamp of an Age of Changes. Buzludzha monument is located just off the road from Stara Zagora to Ruse and can be conveniently reached by car. There is one more route from Shipka but this is usually closed down in the winter when it snows. The monument was built on the top of Stara Planina Buzludzha peak which is in the heart of Bulgaria and offers stunning views of the area and much further. As is the case with abandoned buildings, be careful when you go in and take the necessary precautions - there is the risk of falling objects and broken glass.
Both Shipka and Kazanlak, the towns closest to Buzludzha, offer a good number of hotels and restaurants alongside various historical, natural and cultural sights and attractions.
