Bar & Dinner Marmalad
Bulgaria
Bar & Dinner Marmalad is located on a quiet little street in Lozenets, one of Sofia's most beautiful housing estates. It is near the city centre so it can be easily reached by taxi, bus or tram. It is also the perfect ending point of every walking tour around the city's most exciting landmarks and every casual stroll along the cool steep neighbourhood alleys with their lovely old houses and leafy trees. Actually Marmalad is situated in a free parking area so you can even get there using your own car without fearing that it may be towed away.
Every tiny detail in the design of the place screams class and comfort. The stylishly minimalistic façade with the large windows will surely grab your attention but the interior will leave you absolutely mesmerised. Each room on both floors is decorated in a different manner using natural materials such as stone and wood. The comfortable large leather couches and sofas making up the quiet booths on the second floor contrast nicely with the wooden bars and stools on the ground floor. The chairs and tables have a clean design devoid of any pompous and unnecessary ornaments. Those of you who are fans of well lit places will absolutely adore the central booth with the white couches under the glass ceiling. This is the sunniest and brightest spot in the whole place... or is it? Obviously not. The improvised summer garden set right on the sidewalk outside the bar and diner and the huge flowery terrace on the second floor just happen to be better at attracting the sun's warm relaxing rays.
But Marmalad Bar and Dinner's food menu is even more impressive than its interior. In it one will find an incredible abundance in traditional Bulgarian meals, sophisticated international specialties and mouthwatering desserts. There is also a wide range of special lunch offers available during workdays. The food, of course, goes hand in hand with the drinks, so don't be surprised by the great variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages served in this place. If you want to get something really extraordinary, just check out the wine list or ask the bartender to fix you an exotic cocktail.
All these things turn Marmalad into quite a versatile venue. It is a place where you can get a nice cup of coffee or tea, eat a delicious dinner, or get a refreshing drink or two. Many people visit the bar and diner every day and they all like it for different reasons. Some enjoy its peaceful atmosphere during the afternoons and relish the food, others prefer the booze and the good music... Wait, we didn't say anything about that, did we? Somewhere around 11 pm one part of the restaurant transforms into a night club where crazy parties are held. Almost every Friday and Saturday famous Bulgarian DJs play groovy sets of retro, chill out and R&B music. Many other great musicians have gigs there as well. So if you are a music admirer and you love dancing, just check out Marmalad's programme and get detailed information about all upcoming events. Oh, yes, remember also that the place is closed on Sundays.
