Description
The Thracians are one of the oldest settlers of the lands on the territory of today's Bulgaria. They are known from 2600 BC to the 2nd century AD, when they were probably assimilated by the Romans. Ancient Greek authors such as Herodotus and Homer wrote about them. The Thracians were very good horsemen, warriors, hunters, but also builders. They achieved an impressive civilization by building temples and tombs, which in terms of complexity are not inferior to the pyramids of Giza. On this excursion we will take you to the valley of the Thracian kings, as they call the area around the city of Kazanlak. A powerful Thracian aristocracy once lived there, leaving behind many tombs and temples. First, we will visit a copy of the Thracian tomb from the 4th century BC in the city of Kazanlak. It is the first tourist site in Bulgaria, which became part of the UNESCO heritage in 1973. An unknown artist painted murals representing Thracian understandings of the afterlife and their gods. The frescoes are considered to be some of the most realistic and finest in the ancient world. Then we will visit the city's history museum, where there are artifacts from the Stone Age to the present day. We are waiting for a visit to another and perhaps the most impressive tomb in Bulgaria, which is the last home of one of the most influential Thracian kings - Sevtus the Third. Kazanlak is also the center of production of the famous Bulgarian rose oil. Brought at the end of the 16th century from Syria, the rose found its second home here. The climate is ideal and the population here quickly understands the benefits of growing roses. Every year at the end of May, a rose festival is organized, where a rose queen is chosen. We will visit a shop where you can buy original rose oil products.Includes
