If you’ve spent your time wandering Bulgaria’s coastal towns like Sozopol and Nessebar, a day cruise is a rewarding way to see the shoreline from a whole new angle. It’s not just about the views, although the golden sands and cliff formations do steal the show. Often, these trips include stops at quieter beaches you wouldn’t find on your own or short visits to rocky coves where locals fish and swim.

I’ve taken cruises that start early in the morning from Burgas and end up near Cape Emine,famous locally as a sort of border between the southern and northern shores. The water’s usually calm in late spring and early fall, making those months ideal if you want to avoid the summer heat and crowds. And a heads up: bring some snacks or a light lunch because not all boats offer food, and dockside taverns along the way can feel touristy or overpriced.

One of my favorite things is how quickly you can slip into a different pace out on the sea. You’ll hear fishing boats coming and going, maybe spot dolphins if you’re lucky, and see those ancient ruins from a distance that pop up everywhere along Bulgaria’s coast.
