Description
The tour begins with hotel pickup at 09:30. The first stop is the Museum of Socialist Art in Sofia, showcasing over 70 monumental sculptures spread across a 7,500 sq.m. park. The museum features the large five-pointed star that once crowned the former Party House in central Sofia.
If your tour date is Monday, the Museum visit is replaced with a trip to Bells Park. Built in 1979 by the daughter of Bulgaria’s last communist leader, the park symbolizes peace through bells created by children from both sides of the Iron Curtain.
After the museum or park visit, the tour continues to the Buzludzha Monument, located approximately a 3-hour drive away. Erected in 1981 to commemorate socialism, this monument was constructed by the Bulgarian Army and artisans between 1974 and 1981. Following the fall of the communist government in 1989, the site was abandoned and has since been subject to vandalism.
