This full-day tour from Sofia explores the Valley of Roses, Kazanlak’s rose museum, and cultural sites, ideal for travelers interested in Bulgarian traditions and natural beauty.
Tour Description
Departure is at 8:00 a.m. from Sofia. The journey follows a scenic route along the foothills of the Balkan Mountains, taking approximately three hours one way. The first stop is the Damascena Ethnographic Complex, where you can walk through the site for about 1.5 hours, learn about rose oil production, and purchase rose products as souvenirs or gifts.
Next, drive 20 minutes to the rose museum in the center of Kazanlak, the oldest and most authentic of its kind. The museum offers a variety of rose-related products, historical exhibits, and free time to explore the town center. The total time spent in Kazanlak is approximately 2.5 hours. The return trip to Sofia takes around three hours.
The Rose Festival occurs around June 6th during the rose harvest season, with roses blooming approximately 10 days earlier, around May 24th. Outside this period, the tour features photo displays, museum visits, and cultural sightseeing.
