Description
This tour covers Sofia’s prominent historical sites, starting with Boyana Church, the only UNESCO World Heritage monument near Sofia. The visit takes about 30 minutes and features frescoes important to art history.
Next, explore the National History Museum, which presents over 14 centuries of Bulgarian history. Afterward, enjoy a meal at a local restaurant established in 1927, where you can discuss topics like the Communist Soviet era, Turkish occupation, and Bulgaria’s participation in World Wars I and II.
In the afternoon, park near Alexander Nevski Square to visit the largest church in the Balkans, followed by an underground tour of the Byzantine-era St. Sofia Church catacombs. Continue on foot to the Russian Church, the National Theater and its garden, the Rotunda of St. George, Roman ruins, and end at the Bania Bashi Mosque. Here, you can enter the Museum of History of Sofia, the Hall's Market, and nearby thermal springs.
