Description
Rila Monastery, located deep in the pine forests of Rila Mountain, is the largest and most significant Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. Founded in the 10th century by St. Ivan Rilski, it combines architectural and artistic heritage and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The monastery has played a key role in Bulgarian spiritual and social history.
After a guided tour of the monastery and lunch, the journey continues back to Sofia with a stop at Boyana Church. This smaller UNESCO site is known for its well-preserved frescoes dating back to 1259, representing an important example of medieval European art.
