Description
Begin at the Kolyu Ficheto Museum to learn about the life and work of the famed Revival-era architect through detailed models, drawings, and historical exhibits. Visit the Lafchieva House, a well-preserved 19th-century residence built entirely without nails, illustrating the lifestyle of Dryanovo’s prosperous merchants.
Explore the “Created by the Earth” exhibition featuring a diverse collection of minerals, gemstones, rare crystals, fossils, and natural formations from around the globe.
Walk through Dryanovo’s outdoor landmarks, including an open-air map of Bulgaria, the historic clock tower, and the “Painted Chimney” – a 45-meter-high mural by artist Krum Baldjiyski. This mural is among the tallest painted in the region and is part of a Guinness World Record attempt, depicting Bulgarian history through vertical “rings of time.”
Cross the original Kolyu Ficheto Bridge, the only surviving bridge by this master builder in its original form, and continue to the Dryanovo Monastery, set in a scenic canyon. The monastery includes an archaeological museum detailing its ancient past, significance during Bulgaria’s National Revival and the April Uprising, and accounts of the longest Ottoman siege it endured.
Conclude your tour at Bacho Kiro Cave, one of Europe’s key prehistoric sites containing some of the oldest modern human remains. Walk through impressive halls with stalactites and stalagmites while learning about important archaeological discoveries. Opened as Bulgaria’s first visitor-friendly cave, it connects the region’s prehistoric past with Dryanovo’s cultural and architectural heritage.
