Description
Depart Sofia city center at 7:00 AM by air-conditioned minibus with an English-speaking driver/host. After a two-hour transfer through the Rila Mountains, arrive at the medieval Rila Monastery.
Spend over an hour exploring the monastery independently. Founded in 927 AD by hermit monk Ivan Rilski, the complex features frescoed churches, a medieval tower, and a museum.
Continue on a 3.5-hour scenic transfer to Plovdiv, with a short break en route. Enjoy more than four hours to explore Bulgaria's second largest city, known for its Roman ruins, Old Town architecture, and the Kapana art district. Receive a free city map and local tips from your driver.
Return shuttle departs at 5:30 PM (6:00 PM from May to September) from the agreed meeting point, arriving back at Knyaz Alexander I Square around 7:30 PM (8:30 PM in the May-September period).
From May to September, the itinerary reverses, departing Sofia at 7:30 AM first to Plovdiv and then to Rila Monastery.
