Description

The tour begins at the Alexander Nevski Cathedral meeting point in Sofia. You will be transferred to Plovdiv, one of Europe’s oldest cities with over 7,000 years of history. Upon arrival, explore the city at your own pace using the included multilingual audio guide (English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Russian).

Plovdiv’s history dates back to 4000 BC. Originally built on the Three Hills—Nebet, Taksim, and Dzhambaz—by the Thracians, it was a fortified settlement and the largest city in Thrace. In the 4th century BC, Phillip of Macedonia conquered the city, renaming it Philippopolis and reinforcing its walls. After numerous battles, Plovdiv became part of the Roman Empire in the 1st century AD.

During Roman times, known as Trimontium, the city was a significant regional center with extensive infrastructure such as cobblestone streets, fortress walls, aqueducts, and sewer systems, many of which remain well preserved.

Plovdiv is a leading cultural and economic hub in southern Bulgaria with diverse accommodation options and a variety of dining and shopping opportunities along its main street.

At the end of the tour, you will be returned either to the Sofia meeting point or your hotel.
