Description

Plovdiv, once the wealthiest city in the Thrace Valley, offers a rich historical and cultural experience. Located on the banks of the Maritsa River, the city presents a blend of ancient Phillipopolis and modern Plovdiv with sites dating back to Roman times alongside preserved old town streets.

The region’s longstanding tradition of winemaking reflects its unique terroir. Plovdiv’s museums, historic sites, and architecture contributed to its designation as the European Capital of Culture in 2019.

Your tour departs from the central Serdika Meeting Point in Sofia at 08:30. After a 2-hour transfer, a professional English-speaking guide will lead you through Plovdiv’s old town. Highlights include house museums, Nebet Tepe hill, St. Constantine and Helena Church, the ancient pharmacy, Roman Theater, Stadium, and Mosque Square.

You will then have 1 to 1.5 hours of free time to explore Plovdiv’s pedestrian street for a drink, light lunch, or a stroll. Around 13:30, the tour proceeds to a nearby village where you will meet your host Tatiana. Visit her family vegetable garden and cooking area, and participate in preparing a traditional dough-based recipe.
