Description
This tour starts at your hotel with a local guide and crosses from Bucharest into Bulgaria via the Danube River and Friendship Bridge. The first stop is the Ivanovo Rock Churches, 13th-century medieval monastic cells, chapels, and churches carved into the cliffs along the Roussenski Lom River gorge.
Next, visit Veliko Tarnovo, a city rich in cultural heritage and history, known for its museums and historical sites. Walk along Samovodene Artisans Street to see family-run workshops including coppersmiths and icon painters preserving traditional crafts.
Hike up Tsarevets Hill to explore the remains of the medieval fortress, including the Patriarchal Church, Royal Palace, and the tower of Emperor Balduin. Then, travel to Arbanassi Village, where 16th-century houses and churches reflect the lifestyle of wealthy merchants from the 17th century. Visit the Konstantsalieva House to see the noble but simple interior decor.
Enjoy local Bulgarian cuisine at a restaurant in Arbanassi before returning to Bucharest.
