Description
Step away from the usual sightseeing and discover Bulgaria through one of its oldest traditions – working with clay.
Your experience begins in our cozy ceramic studio in the heart of Sofia, where you'll be welcomed with a short introduction to Bulgarian craftsmanship and everyday life. As you settle in, you'll hear stories about local traditions, pottery, embroidery, symbols, and the cultural influences that have shaped Bulgaria through the centuries.
Next, you'll create your own clay canvas using authentic Bulgarian clay. Guided by a local ceramic artist, you'll learn how to shape and smooth the surface, preparing it for decoration. No previous experience is needed – this activity is designed for complete beginners as well as curious travelers looking for a meaningful local experience.
Once your clay pieces are ready, you'll discover the art of sgraffito – a decorative technique used in ceramics for centuries. Using simple tools, you'll carve designs into the clay and bring your souvenirs to life. You can create completely personal designs or draw inspiration from Sofia's landmarks, traditional Bulgarian embroidery motifs, folk symbols, and historical patterns.
Throughout the workshop, you'll have the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about Bulgarian culture, and enjoy relaxed conversations with your hosts. Rather than simply buying a souvenir, you'll create one with your own hands while connecting with the stories and traditions behind it.
By the end of the workshop, you'll have created two personalized clay souvenirs inspired by Bulgaria's culture, symbols, and stories. Compact and travel-friendly, they are meaningful keepsakes that carry memories of your time in Sofia long after your trip has ended.
This experience is perfect for solo travelers, couples, families with older children, and anyone looking for an authentic cultural activity beyond the typical tourist attractions.
